Safety in All Saints, Brambleside & Caitlands
Safety has been an issue in All Saints particularly for number of years, but this has become heightened following recent incidents. This page aims to outline what you can do, if you are concerned, have been affected or want to know how to report an incident.
Note: In response to recent events, there have been increased Police patrols in the area to increase your safety.
If you’ve been affected by recent events
- Talk to your neighbours when you see them – check up on them and let them know how you are dealing with things too
- Go to Johnny’s Happy Place – their cafe is open 10-2pm on Saturdays and 11-2pm Sundays, have a £1 cuppa and chat with some like-minded local people, with free counselling available 11-2pm
- Get in touch with Kettering Mind or go to one of their cafe sessions for some support
- Message or call one of us – we’re here to help. We also welcome your ideas and thoughts on how to make the area safer, or how to make you personally feel safer
- Come and see the CCTV control room. Newly installed CCTV in the area is now in action and you can register to visit the CCTV control room to see the cameras at work. Register your interest for a control room visit here.
- Join the local StreetWatch group and become a community patrol officer. Click here for more information.
- Report when and where you’ve felt unsafe on the StreetSafe map.
What to do in the event of an incident
It’s key that we all work together to report crime as and when it happens, or report in non-urgent incidents/evidence as soon after the event as possible:
- If a crime is currently taking place, call 999
- If you are reporting a non-urgent incident, call 101 or report any information online here
- Alert your neighbours by posting on the All Saints Chat Facebook group, Brambleside Chat group or Caitlands group
CCTV in All Saints
CCTV has been installed recently in All Saints, and the local Community Safety Officer has invited all residents to come and see the control room where the cameras are monitored. If you would like to book a visit, register your interest here and we will be arranging viewing days throughout the year.
Since the CCTV has been installed there has been a significant increase in successful arrests, however reporting incidents promptly is also a huge help in cracking down on local crime. The CCTV is monitored 24/7 and it is fascinating and very reassuring to see.
Street safety & women’s safety
The police also have some funding to be used specifically for women’s safety and nighttime safety in the town. We will let you know more once their campaigns go live, but they are aiming to create a safe space scheme where shops join up to a scheme where anyone can come inside if they feel unsafe in an area without the need to buy anything. The hope is that we can build up a network of spaces that people can use as refuges if the streets feel unsafe for whatever reason.
Following recent events, both across the country and on our doorstep, we also decided to host a Women’s March on 4th December to speak out against this injustice against women and empower residents to retake the streets.
We also now have a growing community of Women in Kettering supporting one another, but would also like to do another march next year that is about street safety for all.
If you have any queries about any of the above, please get in touch.
