Green Pledges from our Town Councillors

Happy New Year everyone! Our first Kettering Town Council meeting of the year was on the 19th January, and we’ve pledged to bike in as much as we can!

We also managed to get the other 20 councillors to make an eco pledge which will all soon be on the Kettering Town Council website – but for now, here are the pledges we are committing to (left to right):

Emily: No more fresh fruit and veg in plastic, only loose (looking forward to an excuse to go to the market!) and cycling to every Kettering Town Council meeting.
James: Meat free workweeks, and just got an electric car (show off! 😉)
Dez: Signed the #FlightFree pledge (again) and plans to cycle or Voi EVERYWHERE.
Sarah: Totally veggie for a month and trying out veg boxes, then will try and have meat free days on the reg.
Keiron: No new clothes! Vintage, secondhand, eBay, Vinted, Schpock – killing fast fashion and shopping locally 🔥💚

We would love to hear the things you’re having a go at, or things that you’ve been doing for ages that others might not know about! Let’s inspire each other and challenge ourselves – there’s no fear of failure in 2022! We’re in it together! 💚

Here are some ideas for you to try…

• Visit Refill Van at The Yards and refill instead of landfill!

• Can you commit not to fly this year? One transatlantic flight uses the same amount of emissions saved by being vegan for a year! Sign the Flight Free 2022 pledge.

• Change your bank account – Barclays, HSBC, Santander, Lloyds, etc all fund fossil fuel extraction and actively contribute to the Climate Emergency. Switch bank to TriodosMonzoStarling or Nationwide

• Are you giving Veganuary a go? Even cutting meat and dairy for one day a week can make a big difference. In fact Ethical Consumer research shows switching to a plant based diet is the second biggest impact an individual can have on their emissions (after stopping long haul flights!)
