Report Fly-Tipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste. It can be anything from domestic items such as fridges, sofas and mattresses to garden waste, tyres and construction waste. It can carry a fine of up to £50,000 and six months imprisonment.

Fly-tipping on private land is the responsibility of the landowner.

Seeing someone fly-tipping

The council recommend that you do not approach them in order to avoid a conflict situation. You can still help the council by taking the following details:

  • Time and date of the incident
  • Location of the incident
  • Description of the people involved (e.g. sex, height, age, build, etc)
  • Description of the vehicle used (registration number, make and model, colour)
  • Description of the waste being tipped (quantity and type of waste)

This information can be used to bring forward a prosecution case against the people involved in the incident.

Report Dog fouling

If a dog fouls in a public area, the mess needs to be picked up and disposed of in a dog or public litter bin. It can also be taken home and put into the black wheelie bin.

Dog fouling can be a risk to health – whilst rare, contact with dog excrement can cause toxocariasis – a nasty infection that can lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma and even blindness or seizures.

If it isn’t picked up, the council can issue a fine and we take offenders to court.

Report it

If you witness someone letting their dog foul without cleaning it up afterwards, you should report it. Please note the:

  • dates and times
  • frequency it happens
  • description of the dog
  • details of the offender

You can also let the council know if there are ongoing issues with dog fouling in your area. They may be able to put up warning signs or monitor the area more.

Report a shopping trolley to TrolleyWise

Please report abandoned shopping trolleys to Trolleywise. They are a specialised operation providing a range of retrieval services which help reduce shopping trolley losses from retail stores across the UK.

Trolleys are often abandoned on roads, walkways and in parks with many even dumped in local waterways, rivers and canals where they can cause harm to wildlife and the general environment. This is an unwelcome hazard to the public and under UK laws can attract substantial fines.

The Trolleywise website asks for a postcode or What3Words location.
